Nipple
reduction surgery is a procedure designed to reduce
the size of overtly large nipples or correct drooping
or overhung nipples. It is popular with women who are
self conscious about the large protrusive size of their
nipples and wish to make permanent correction, and as
milk ducts are preserved, women are able to breast feed
properly afterwards.
How does it work?
Nipple reduction is a delicate
surgical procedure to perform. It involves the surgeon
making small incisions on the nipple itself and removing
pieces of it, so reducing its overall size. Once the
incisions are closed and heal, scarring is virtually
imperceptible.
How long does surgery take?
Nipple reduction is a fairly swift
surgical procedure taking no more than an hour to complete.
The patient can be either under a local or general anaesthetic,
and no overnight stay in hospital is required.
What is the recovery time?
Most patients resume normal activity
within a couple of days and make a full recovery within
7 10 days.
How long will it last?
Nipple reduction surgery produces
permanent results.
Are there any side effects?
Bruising and swelling of the nipples
and breast area is to be expected after the operation,
as is nausea from any general anaesthetic administered.
There are no long-term side effects to worry about. |
